BONHAMS AUCTION


Roger is pleased to announce that last year Bonhams of London asked him to make "10 special pieces" for auction this spring.


The auction event was on MARCH 12 AND 13TH - with Roger's pottery auctioned on MARCH 13TH



Roger is pleased to say that all the pieces sold - many for rather more than the guide price.

Here are the 10 pieces which Roger has made especially for the Auction:-
bowl rising salmon plus text 1. LARGE BOWL "rising salmon".

Depicting 2 fish rising from a deep blue pool; one fish with head emerging. Added text:- "In a cool curving world he lies..." - from a poem 'The fish' by Rupert Brooke.

The bowl is made in stoneware, measures 57cms.wide x 25cms.high. Thrown, pierced and modelled, then painted with glazes and vitreous slips. Stamps and signature at the foot.

platter.returning.salmon 2. PLATTER "returning salmon".

Depicting a shoal of returning salmon.

The platter is made in stoneware, measuring 31cms. wide x 6.5cms. deep. Thrown, pierced with relief work, then painted with glazes and vitreous slips. Stamps and signature at the foot.

bowl.lobster.at.pool 3. DEEP BOWL - "lobster at pool".

Depicting a large lobster holding a whelk, caught at low tide in a rock pool.
The bowl is 40cms. wide x 21cms. high. Thrown, pierced and with relief work. Sponged and painted with glazes and vitreous slips. Stamps and signature at the foot.

Depicting an octopus having caught a crab.

The bowl measures 34.5cms.wide x 13.5cms.high. Thrown, with some relief work and piercing. Textured and painted with glazes and externally with vitreous slips. Stamps and signature at the foot.

Depicting a shoal of tropical fish circling the form. Inspired by fish from warmer climes.

The vessel measures 36cms.high. Thrown, incised and textured. Painted with glazes and vitreous slips. Stamps and signature at the foot.

Depicting a herd of frogs and a group of waterlilies in my garden pond.

The bowl measures 39cms. wide x 14cms. high. Thrown, pierced and relief work added. Painted with glazes and vitreous slips. Stamps and signature at the foot.

lidded.jar.frogs.lily 7. LIDDED JAR - "frogs with lily"

Depicting a jar with frogs rising through the water and emerging to form the 'lugs' or 'handles'. Lid finial as lily flower and leaf.

The jar measures 32cms. high. Thrown, then modelled, with relief work on emerging frogs. Painted with glazes and vitreous slips. Stamps and signature at the foot.

Depicting two pike spiralling upwards through the water column.

The pot measures 35cms. high. Thrown in stoneware. Spiral added whilst still on the wheel. Incised, then painted with fish inside and out to give a strong sense of 3 dimensions. Stamps and signature at the foot.

Depicting the form and 'pouting' manner of many fish. It shows two fish "sharing" the same mouth.

The bottle measures 34cms. high. Thrown and incised with some relief work and textured scales. Painted with glazes and vitreous slips. Stamps and incised signature at the recessed foot.
