visiting the pottery | |
| The Pottery Studio and Gallery are situated on the western edge of the ancient North Devon village of Chittlehampton.
This attractive village is about five miles west of South Molton, just off the B3227. South Molton is easily reached via junction 27 of the M5 - from Bristol or London - turning onto the A361 main road to North Devon and look for the South Molton turning after about 20 miles. |
If you are travelling from the cathedral City of Exeter to the south, turn off the A377 (Exeter to Barnstaple) at the village of Umberleigh toward South Molton on the B3227.
After 2 miles take the signpost for Chittlehampton. Every turning is well signed. It really is easy to find us. |

Opening Times Our usual opening hours are:
Monday to Friday 10am to 1pm and 2pm to 5.30pm
We are also often open at weekends, or can often do so on request. (We live nearby.) However, it is advisable to ring or email first before making a visit out of season or out of normal hours - or if travelling from some distance.
You are very welcome to visit the pottery. |

The venue comprises a timber clad pottery building which houses a spacious gallery/showroom, adjoining studio and further kiln room. It is approached through a large courtyard, the entrance of which is guarded by a magnificent horse-chestnut tree. The courtyard provides off-road parking for several cars.
The display area has two sections. Firstly, you come to the entrance area, in which are displayed the ranges of kitchen/domestic pottery all designed by Roger and carefully handmade in the studio - next door. |
Then, at the rear, is laid out our well lit gallery section, where Roger's special Individual/exhibition pieces are displayed. On the walls of the gallery are Ros' beautiful paintings and to one side there is a selection of the paintings reproduced as mounted prints and cards. |
A glass-panelled door links the showroom to the studio area where visitors can sometimes see the work in various stages of manufacture. Visits and conducted tours of the studios - usually with demonstrations e.t.c. - may be arranged by appointment. | |

| The heart of the village has many thatched cottages, a traditional square with village pump, a splendid Church and a friendly pub. It was for centuries a major site of Christian pilgrimage and still retains much of its original charm and character. Chittlehampton is set, of course in the beautiful Devon landscape, with its hills and river valleys and its patchwork of woods and green fields. | |
